FAQ's

When does registration for the spring season begin?

Registration opens the first week of December and typically runs through the first week of February.

If I miss the registration deadline, can my child still play?

Online registration will close at midnight on the final advertised day, but it is still possible to register and be placed on a team. An email to the league must be sent requesting late registration and pending placement on a team. If there are teams with room available, the league will either place players on those teams until they are full, or a coach must grant permission to allow the player on their team. NO players are guaranteed placement on a team after the deadline has passed, even if a coach is expecting that player on his roster. A $20 late fee will be applied to all registrations accepted after the deadline.

What is the length of the spring season?

The season usually begins in late March and ends in late May to mid-June, weather permitting. T-ball and coach pitch leagues will typically end in late May, whereas the kid pitch leagues will often go into the first or second week of June due to making up games that have been rained out.

When are games played during the week?

Games are played Monday-Saturday. T-ball and coach pitch begin games at 6:00 PM Mon-Fri and generally last no more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. Kid pitch games play at 6:00 and 7:45 PM Mon-Fri with a duration of approximately 1 ½ hours. Saturday games begin at 10:00 AM and are played at intervals throughout the day. Sunday games will only be scheduled due to excessive rainouts.

How many games are played?

Approximately 12 games can be expected in most leagues for an average of 1-2 games per week, weather permitting.

When do teams practice and how many times per week?

Generally, teams practice about 1-2 times per week before the season starts. JYB offers each coach one weekday and one weekend practice time slot for up to 1.5 hours. It is up to the coach whether the team practices once or twice per week. Practice schedules are not released to coaches until mid-February. Weekday practices typically begin around 5:30-6:00 PM, and weekend practices start at 10:00 AM on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays.

What is the cost to play?

See our Spring page for this information.

Do I have to purchase my own uniform?

T-Ball 4-5 fees include a team uniform shirt and hat. Additional pieces like pants or socks may be purchased separately. Other leagues must purchase uniforms before the season starts, with costs ranging from $75-$100.

Is JYB an age-based league or grade-based league?

Teams are formed by age, not grade. The age cut-off date is April 30.

How do I determine what age group my child falls into?

The age of the child on or before April 30 of the current spring season determines their age group. For example, if a player turns 9 on April 29, they must play in the 9U competitive league or the 9/10 instructional league.

What is the league’s policy on playing up or down a league?

A child may play one age group above their current age. Players may not play up two years without JYB Board approval. Players may NOT play down unless they qualify for the grade exception.

How many players can play on a team?

The league recommends 11-13 players for t-ball, coach pitch, and instructional teams. No more than 13 players will be placed on a team without the coach’s permission, and a minimum of 10 is required.

What if I don’t have a team?

Players must register as "Unassigned" if they haven't been invited to a specific team. The league will place unassigned players on teams that need players or create new teams if enough players exist.

Can my child play on a team with his friends?

You may request to be placed on a team with specific children in the special requests box on the registration form, or you may form a team with players of your choice.

I would like to coach my own team. What if I don’t have enough players?

The league will fill your team if enough players are available, or combine your team with another coach needing players.

Can a coach add a player after the cut-off date?

Teams may only add players if they have an open spot and the coach agrees to an additional player.

What is your refund policy?

No refunds will be given once rosters have been released at the Spring Coaches Meeting. Convenience fees are non-refundable at any time.
